AG&P Foundation donates playground to Sta.Maria

6 O'clock in the morning of Thursday, May 14, 2009, the children of Sta. Maria converged at the east wing of their chapel, near the basketball court, along the sea shore, to line up and take turns riding the 6 seater swings, 4 seesaws, hang levers and steel castle mazes they described as the "Sta. Maria Recreation Park and Play Ground". For the first time Sta. Maria enjoyed camaraderie, Barangay informal meetings and constituent gatherings without formal invites because of the newly constructed playground donated by the AG&P Company of Manila Foundation, Inc. Fathers and Mothers brought their children to the park to escape the scourging heat of summer and exchange 'chit-chats' with 'manongs' and 'manangs', the usual Barangay folks, of the Sta. Maria. Barangay officials sat by the reams of breakwaters watching their citizens enjoy the luxury of a full facility piazza installed by AG&PFI as they themselves unwind seeing peace and serenity once more in the divided communities along the shores of Bauan. Mr. Renato M. Alarcon, Executive Director of the AG&P Company of Manila Foundation, Inc. donated the playground to Barangay Captain Restie Agena after the latter narrated stories of frustrations to meet harmony and agreement among his jurisdictional civic, due to cultural, regional and political differences. According to Mr. Alarcon, he saw the need to share with Barangay Sta. Maria some community recreation facilities to alleviate the intricacies in governance since Agena's Barangay falls also under AG&PFI's communal commitment. With humble intentions RMA visited Sta. Maria and surveyed the proposed locations. He instructed staffs to erect a full play facility in these areas which was delivered promptly on May 14th. May 28, 2009, the honorable head of the Barangay inaugurated the first of the proposed annual celebration of the playground's foundation. A traditional ceremonial ribbon cutting and blessing of the AG&PFI – Sta. Maria Recreation Park and Play Ground was solemnized with a Mass heard at 10AM followed by the lighting of candles, blessings then signing of a Memorandum of Acceptance (MOA). The event was witnessed by Vice-Mayor Romeo Bacong of the Municipality of Bauan, Municipal Councilor Bautista, some public officials, Restie Agena, Barangay officials, AG&P Officers (Richard Reyes, Jeniffer Halili, Leo Salcedo, and Brucal) and the general public. Children rushed the grounds immediately after the ceremonies and scuffled every seat they can occupy to experience the pleasure of riding AG&PFI leisure facilities. According to Pangulo Restie Agena, beside the grounds will also rise the Barangay Day Care Center and (in the near future) their first elementary school. All these, according to Agena, were initiatives instated by AG&PFI to Barangay Sta. Maria, which they are most proud of. 'Manang', Adoring Calingasan, held that they will never, ever forget the charity AG&PFI shared with them for the rest of their lives as these were already 'legacies'.
